IMPORTANT FRAUD ALERT

The credit union has been notified of a recent Phishing attempt. A Hannaford Associate received an e-mail appearing to be from NAFCU (National Association of Federal Credit Unions), STAR (Our ATM and Debit Card vendor) and also NCUA (National Credit Union Administration). This e-mail is purportedly a Security Center advisory. IT IS FRAUDULENT! The Phishers are attempting to get the receivers to click on a link to update account information with the intent of stealing your personal account information. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL!

Hannaford Associates Federal Credit Union (HAFCU) wants to let all of our members know that we, as well as any association (NAFCU, NCUA, CUNA) that we do business with, does NOT send emails with links to update account information.

Please do NOT respond to any of these types of e-mails.

If you have any questions, please ask any member service representative.

WHAT CAN I DO TO PROTECT MYSELF?

The short answer is that identity theft is a crime.  Unlike your fingerprints, your personal data especially your Social Security number, your bank account or credit card number, and other valuable identifying data can be used, if they fall into the wrong hands, to personally profit at your expense. In the United States and Canada, for example, many people have reported that unauthorized persons have taken funds out of their bank or financial accounts, or, in the worst cases, taken over their identities altogether, running up vast debts and committing crimes while using the victims's names. In many cases, a victim's losses may include not only out-of-pocket financial losses, but substantial additional financial costs associated with trying to restore his reputation in the community and correcting erroneous information for which the criminal is responsible.
